The History Of Walkerville Council

The Walkerville Council is a small town with local government in the main suburbs of Adelaide in South Australia.

The people of Walkerville Council are mainly known by a mayor and other eight councillors. This place has the richest people in entire South Australia. Moreover, in 2016, it was named “the richest postcode of South Australia.”

The Walkerville district council was primarily signified on 5th July 1855, separating the place from the Yatala’s District Council after a request by local people. It explained a wish to break away from the bigger District Council of Yatala. Primarily, only the locations of Gilberton and Walkerville separated from Yatala. But soon after two three months, North Walkerville and Medindie were taken over by Walkerville. The suburb boundaries stayed unchanged till 1970 when the City of Enfield annexed Vale Park.

Early meetings of council occurred in a local pub’s room, the Sussex Arms. The council seat was moved across the Stephen Terrace to its current place by the Town Hall of Walkerville in 1883.

Then, it enjoyed the corporate town rank on October 1st, 1994. This is how it became the Town of Walkerville.
